GSB Gets Federal Attention!

Last week we were thrilled to host The Deputy Director of the Department of the Interior Shannon Estenoz at Garfield Park to share with her our project and plans. As a recipient of a $2.085M grant federal grant, we had an opportunity to showcase the power of a community led project. As Shannon noted “When the community designs the project, we know they always do it right.” Shannon and several other of our elected officials spent over two hours meeting with our coalition and hearing about the community, the vision and the design. We were honored to be joined by Seattle City Council Member Teresa Mosquesda, State Senator Rebecca Saldana, and US Representative Pramila Jayapal, in addition to our Mayor Bruce Harrell. It was an amazing listening session and we are very grateful for everyone’s time and enthusiasm!

For our little project to be getting such big attention is an amazing testament to the strength of our community and the support of our partners , Seattle Parks and Rec and Seattle Parks Foundation. We thank everyone involved!

There’s no stopping now! We are well on our way to realizing an amazing community centered park!
