GSB is Awarded Two Major Grants!

We are beyond thrilled to share the news that the Garfield Super Block has been awarded two major grants that will fund significant portions of the construction of the park renovation.

The first is the Land and Water Conservation Fund - Legacy Grant, which is a federally funded grant. Thanks to funding pledged by Seattle Parks and Recreation, Seattle Public Schools, and Seattle City Council in 2021, we were able to apply for this matching fund grant. The GSB grant application has been reviewed and approved, for $2,085,000. This review will be assessed by the National Park Service, with the formal grant award estimated for June 30, 2023.

In addition, we recently learned that we have been awarded $209,837.00 from the King County Healthy Communities and Parks Fund. This grant will specifically help pay for a new accessible ramp on the southeast corner of park.

With this news, we have approximately $4.5M raised for this $7.7M project- an amazing start that shows just how powerful and important this project is. We are well on our way! We will continue our fundraising efforts through grant writing, political advocacy and private fundraising.

We are very grateful for all the help we received in applying for these grants, and the faith and support shown by our partners-not to mention the hundreds of volunteer hours put in by our coalition. This project shows just how powerful a community vision can be!
